Newsgator Buying Bradbury

Om Malik reports:

NewsGator, one of the early RSS start-ups, is buying Bradbury Software for an undisclosed amount in cash and stock in an effort to increase its presence in the fast growing market for RSS-related software products and services.

Bradbury Software, brainchild of well-known programmer Nick Bradbury, sells Feed Demon, a Windows desktop application that allows PC users to easily download and read RSS feeds. He is also the creator of HTML editor HomeSite, which was acquired by Allaire in 1996 and is now owned by Macromedia. Bradbury will be joining NewsGator as well. Greg Reinacker, founder and CTO of NewsGator confirmed the news of the deal. Newsgator delivers RSS feeds to its customers via email, Web and into Outlook email clients. It did not have a desktop presence, which prompted the two companies to start talking. “Our customers were looking for a desktop application, which was the only missing piece in our suite of offerings,” Reinacker told Business 2.0.

Starting this summer, all paying NewsGator subscribers will get FeedDemon as part of their subscription packages at no additional charge.  In addition, all FeedDemon and TopStyle customers will get a free 2-year NewsGator business subscription, which will include free updates of both NewsGator Outlook edition and FeedDemon.
